Hi everyone. By the time you are reading this bulletin hopefully I will be enjoying a few days in Amsterdam before joining our river cruise. PP Con will be back to preside over this weeks meeting and then PP Ken will look after things the next 3 weeks before I return.
Our Footy night was a great success, I think everyone enjoyed Terry Waters presentation . A big thank you to Willo for his hard work arranging the night. Hopefully we made a few dollars for Foundation. Thanks also to Jules for making the effort to get there after a stay in hospital, keep well Jules.
Your Board met last week and approved a budget to modify the BBQ trailer and trial a new supplier of sausages.
Also we received a draft copy of our By-laws , we will review these at our October meeting and present them to the club.
The Board have approved the nomination of PDG Alan Anderson to be our only Honorary Member.
Discussion occurred about members not arranging substitutes when they can't do the BBQ or the duty team, it is your responsibility to arrange a swap .
Margaret Lane is organising a cocktail party for our meeting on 15th October when we will attempt to get some prospective members to attend. If you have any prospects please make contact with Margaret ASAP.

This week we welcome Chad Griffiths, Head, Strategic Planning, Nillumbik Shire Council. Chad will present/describe plans for the redevelopment of Central Eltham Shopping & Business Plaza Area, the Railway precinct and Panther Place. Plenty of questions spring to mind, including steep rates!!…so, a chance to examine Council intentions. Be good if we can have a representative of the Eltham Chamber of Commerce in the audience.
Past President Con Proussalis will brush up his skills, and take control in the absence of Pres. David. Ross McDonald will chair whilst John O'Callaghan gets his chance to rip a few dollars off unsuspecting Members. Cost of two course meal this week reverts to $35, drinks at bar prices.

Reports from the floor:
1. Prez. David McFarlane outlined major decisions from the Board meeting of 9 September (see separate report in this Bulletin)
2. Max Lee reminded everyone that the Marathon is only six weeks away. He needs to know who is running/walking, who needs shirts, who can get some sponsorships, who is attending the lunch
3. Margaret Lane advised all of a membership drive cocktail function at the Common at our meeting on Thursday 15 October
4. Ann asked everyone if they have received the new membership list. If not, please let her know. RSVPs for this Thursday’s meeting are required by Tuesday 5pm please.
Guest speaker: Terry Waters
Terry played 163 games for Collingwood from 1963 to 1972 and is now proudly a member of the over 70’s club – a fact he demonstrated by donning a Collingwood jumper with the number 70 on the back. Terry grew up in the Mallee but started his playing career with Dandenong. He had many amusing anecdotes about the recruiting practices of the time – he was close to signing with St Kilda – and lamented the many changes in the modern game. He is not impressed with the role of the AFL or with the style of play in the modern game. He was a most entertaining and engaging speaker and we thank him for his many insights into the game.
The Board held its September Meeting on 9 September at the home of David McFarlane.

The Board has approved a budget for trailer modifications which are being organised by the Community Service committee

We will have sourced (no pun intended) sausages at lower price but good quality from Bolton St butcher and will purchase these as a trial for the next few weeks
Duty Team
Problems have been noted with members not turning up on time or at all and not arranging their own swap if not available. Les Coath is working to update the Duty team list
Membership evening
15th October has been designated as a membership evening. Margaret Lane is organising drinks and finger food at The Common.
The Committee proposed ongoing support of CAVE. Ron Manison has made contact and is putting together a proposal for the next 12 months. CAVE have requested an opportunity to speak at a club meeting which Ron will arrange.
Diamond Valley Learning Centre ( DVLC)
DVLC have asked for more drivers for the L to P program to assist students to obtain their driver's licence. Many DVLC students do not have any responsible adult to help them obtain a licence.
Men’s Shed
We have scheduled a presentation of the plaque and a formal presentation of the Rotary District grant at the Mens Shed AGM. Past President Ken Paynter will present the plaque in the absence of President David McFarlane and PP Con Proussalis.
Eltham Toy Library BBQ
The BBQ held on Saturday 5Sept from 8am to 1pm was manned by Ron Manison, Alison Cooper and Graham Miles. The Toy Library picked up all costs and netted a profit of approx. $380.

The Board approved a budget for the BBQ modifications and the team is working on arranging the refit required
Multiple Sclerosis Society (MS) Watsonia
The Community Committee has been asked to help in the construction of wheelchair accessible vegetable and flower boxes. It has been decided that as this organisation is not in our area, we will approach the Mens Shed or a local Rotary Club to assist.

Hi Ann,
Thanks so much for this (donation of $500). As the founder of the Club (Doncaster All Abilities) it has been a battle to keep afloat at times. Raising money is an issue for our elite players as many of them have little family support and in the case of one of our female players, her whole family have mild intellectual disability. I have had two new knees in the last 6 months and also look after a very ill husband so I have not been able to dedicate as much of my time to Doncaster All Abilities as I would like. So I really appreciate your help.
DAAB gave 4 players $250 each and we ran a raffle but did not raise anywhere near enough to cover all players. Our committee is small and dedicated but rearing children and adults with disabilities is very tiring.
You might be interested to know that about 3 years ago I was asked to get a group together to assist getting accommodation for people with disabilities in Manningham. Adult children with disabilities wanted to live in the city they know and love and with people they know. When you are on the Government list for accommodation you just get the next vacancy in far away places living with people you don"t know in a place you don"t know. Many of the parents on the DAAB committee have also helped get Manningham Inclusive Community Housing (MICH) up and advocating to all. It has just been announced that the Government has given (MICH) $550,00 toward 2 new town houses and a property developer will build them at cost. What a win. There are good people about! Eltham Rotary thank you.
By the way we have many many players who come from Eltham in the DAAB competition.
President David has gained us access to sell tickets in the Lord's Taverner Raffle.
