PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Last Thursday was a relaxed and enjoyable barefoot bowls event, followed by a BBQ at the Golf Club. It was an opportunity to have a bit of fun and catch up with any members and partners who may not have been around since Christmas. The talents of the bowlers varied considerably, with a few standouts.

This week is a really important night devoted to Club Committees. Each Director will have about an hour to go over their program for the next six months and I would like to see all members in attendance sit in on a committee, even if not a regular with that particular one. There is a lot going on at present so your Directors need your support.

There are some great nights coming up for the rest of February, culminating with a night at Eltham Little Theatre on the 29th in this Leap Year! Bookings for ‘Yes Prime Minister’ are on TryBooking with the link in this Bulletin. Also, remember Conference is coming up in April, in Shepparton, so time is running out to know your accommodation requirements.

Cheers,
President Ian

Thursday, 8th February – Club Service Committee Meetings

We have had a bit of fun to start 2024. Time to re-focus on what’s doing in the Club and Community Service. We will set aside the best part of an hour for each Committee to meet and work through the agenda as set by each Service Director. The Eaglemont and Bryn Teg Rooms are both available on Thursday, so we will have plenty of space to meet/spread. Join a Committee if you are not part of one.

President Ian at the helm; President Elect Alison to Chair; Jules will propose the Toast; 5 mins for a Fine/Thumbs Up Session, if Ross McDonald can keep it that tight, otherwise let's pass this week.

This is a really important Club meeting. Be sure to attend if you can- RSVP by 5pm Monday evening.

IMPORTANT ACTION REQUIRED - SPONSORSHIP/FUNDRAISING ROLE TO BE FILLED

As you all know we hold two major events during the year - the Rotary Eltham Art Show and the Rotary Eltham Festival.  In order to run these large events and to have funds available to complete club projects within the local community and overseas it is extremely important to have sponsors on board or to apply for Government or Philanthropic grants that arise through out the year.

We have now a position available for immediate filling.  The club is in need of a member to take on the VERY important role of Sponsorship/fundraising.

If you or someone you know would be interested please let a Board member know.

Any questions please contact Ian Toohill or myself.

Regards,
Alison

CPR - Could You Help?

Someone nearby might need CPR.

Could you help?

Cardiac arrest is often unexpected. For every minute a patient doesn’t get CPR/defibrillation, their chances of survival fall by 10%.

GoodSAM (Smartphone Activated Medic) connects responders to patients in those first critical minutes of cardiac arrest while paramedics are on the way.

Vic First Aid recently provided an excellent training session on CPR and defibrillator use. Frank Perri is passionate that those members of the community who are competent and able to perform ‘Compression only CPR', register as a GoodSAM responder.

If a person is having a cardiac arrest and you are nearby, you receive an alert on your phone requesting your assistance. You have the option to accept or decline the request depending on your availability.

The registration process is very easy to follow and there is a lot of information on Ambulance Victoria’s website.

www.ambulance.vic.gov.au/goodsam/

I have registered, let’s show our appreciation to Vic First Aid by as many of the club members supporting this initiative to save lives.
