President's Report

 

Welcome to our new look Bulletin. Your Board decided to revise the layout and content and reduce the size; so here goes. It will evolve over time. Thanks Dale for the photos.

 

It was a busy Rotary week with District Governor Richard Luke and his wife Lorna attending last Thursday. I met them and took them to Rat's shed and The Rat gave them a great overview of Aquabox, they were very impressed.We then went back to The Common and had a brief Board Meeting.They then attended our weekly meeting and Richard gave us a quick resume of his plans for the year ahead.

 

The DG was impressed with our Clubs many projects and the quality of our efforts.

 

Saturday night was Bollywood,great venue ,lovely food,top music and dancing,what a fantastic job Kevin and Marion do ,they are amazing people.

Sunday was the first real try at "bringing a Buddy to our BBQ". Graham Miles gave great assistance to me,Ash ,JESS and Josh (Jessica's boyfriend) and we had a beaut day ,taking over $1000. Thanks Graham.See if you can " bring a Buddy" and help share the load.let Ron Manison know if you can"bring a Buddy"

This week we hear about the changes at Judge Book so let's make it a good night.

 

Pleased to hear PP Con is on the mend,we might see him this Thursday.Congratulations to our England supporters for The Ashes success. Great win and thoroughly deserved .

President David McFarlane welcomed all and announced that he would be tossing the coin to start play at the Brisbane Lions v Carlton game at The Gabba on 15/8/15.

Reports from the Floor
John Skinner
  • The International Committee has held its first meeting for the new Rotary year
  • Priorities will be ongoing support for existing projects including Muskaan and East Timor (financial support only)
Les Coath
  • Donations to Foundation through the Every Rotarian Every Year program are now being taken
Brett Linsell
  • Rotaractors would like some more input from Rotary members especially re guest speakers
Ian Toohil
  • Interactors are doing the BBQ on 16 August. They would appreciate some assistance from anyone available that day.
Graham Miles
  • Melbourne Marathon is on 18 October. He is running the full marathon but would love members to take part in any of the runs or walks.
Guest Speakers DG Richard and Lorna Luke Richard outlined his goals for the year:
  1. Polio
  2. Increase Membership
  3. Foundation
The DG Partner's project is also Polio. Lorna Luke said that it was important to finish the job and it need only take another three year's of commitment to end Polio worldwide. Nigeria has been Polio free for 12 months and there were only 34 cases worldwide this year.
President David presented a Club cheque to Lorna for Polio Plus.

  • encouraged everyone to come to the Conference in Bendigo - last week of February 2016
  • encouraged all to read the District newsletter called The Cog this year
  • spoke in support of Donate Life Organ Donation
  • reported that District has updated Rules of Incorporation
  • encouraged the use of new technologies eg on-line meetings, learning courses etc
  • spoke about new policies eg Youth protection
  • spoke about Australian Rotary Health funding for an ANZAC Scholarship for PhD research into PTSD
  • encouraged the Club to seek out some of the young people affected by bushfires and offer them support to access Rotary courses such as RYLA / RYPEN

Melbourne Marathon 2015

Team Aquabox  will be running again at this year's Melbourne Marathon on 18 October. Graham '26 Miles' is already in training for the event. You will recall that last year we had a Team Aquabox T shirt with the logos of sponsors emblazoned on it.

Now is the time to get sponsors for this year's event. Has anyone already lined up shirt sponsors for 2015? If so, could you let Peter Roden know ASAP. If you have any sponsors in mind, could you also let Peter know.

We would also like to know who intends to take part in the Marathon in its many forms including the walk. Last year some 20 or so Rotarians, family and friends participated in the walk and the lunch afterwards. If you are intending to take part this year, could you let Ann Lynch know please.

Rotary Leadership Institute 2015

Next Part 1 training session will be held on Sunday 27th Sept 2015
9am - 1.30pm with lunch provided.
Euroa Secondary College (cnr Main Rd and Campbell St)
Cost $30 per attendee for each session to be paid at time of registration (Total $90 for all three sessions) with registration form completed.
 
The Rotary Leadership Institute course is conducted over three interactive sessions with a graduation certificate once completed.
