I trust everyone had an enjoyable long weekend. I know many members ventured to Portarlington and surrounds for the annual Celtic Festival. Rumour has it that the Booths, Kellys and Lynchs were some of those spotted enjoying the music and other delights the festival had to offer. I hope they bring home some new ideas for our festival in November.
Meanwhile back at Eltham Lower Park, patrons came out in droves in the sun for the annual teddy bears picnic at the Diamond Valley Railway. Our BBQ teams were run off their feet. Sunday’s crew led by Les Coath and comprising Margaret Lane, Con Proussalis, Irene Cant, Christina Proust and two students from Montmorency Secondary College took $1684 and sold out by 1.30pm. Monday's team was led by Mike Wetzler and included Alison and Andrew Cooper, Sally Squires and Diana Drysdale - raising $1317. Many thanks and well done to all involved.
Last Thursday we enjoyed meeting Acting Senior Sergeant Shawn Kostiw of Eltham Police Complex and hearing about his 18 years experience with Victoria Police. A local with a young family, Shawn brings a varied police background including most recently as a detective at Heidelberg, to his new role in charge of the Eltham station. We have already worked with him on developing some procedures for road closures and crowd safety on Anzac Day and look forward to working with him and his staff on crowd control at festival time.
Last week I had the privilege of inducting Anthony Russell, our sixth new member this year. Anthony is Manager at Le Pines in Eltham and his classification is ‘funeral services’. Congratulations and welcome to the Rotary Club of Eltham, Anthony. Thank you to Margaret Lane who has steered the Membership portfolio throughout the year and exceeded her goal of bringing in five new members. Margaret is handing over the membership baton to Jules Aussems next Rotary year. Cheers,
President Judy

We have a very special night planned this week. RBTB is one of the nights most members love to come along to and this week our speaker is our very own Denese Billings. She has an amazing story to cover during the meeting and I think most members will not be aware of her recent successes on the world stage.Come along and find out more about one of our newer members and her activities outside of Rotary - I think you will be surprised.
