President's Message
The Rotary Club of Kinglake Ranges has done a wonderful job in such a short period of time; they are to be applauded for the many projects they are doing so successfully. Thanks especially to P.P. Michael Englefield  and P.D.G.Alan Anderson for their efforts in helping Kinglake to get up and running.  Annual visits between our clubs should be encouraged.
 
Thank you to all the members who have responded to our survey.  I can assure you that the Board values your comments and we will give you a full report at Club Assembly on 28th April. (Note change of date)
 
I would like to acknowledge the many years of diligent work done by Gary Williams in coordinating "our program." This is a very time consuming job and Gary's enthusiasm ensures that the Speaker is well informed re our Club.  We have interesting and varied topics and the guest speaker is well promoted within our club. Thanks Gary for all your hard work, it is greatly appreciated.

RC Eltham will commemorate ANZAC this Thursday, one week early, with a highly qualified speaker on Military conflict.  Terry Phillips, widely acknowledged Military Historian will address "WW1, The Battle of the Somme". Terry lives in Eltham, has researched, written and spoken about WW1 extensively. He has been retained by Nillumbik Shire to detail the history of involvement, achievements and suffering of those who came from Nillumbik and fought on the Western Front. His wealth of knowledge about the Military history of local resident families should complement the March 2015 address by Ted Baillieu.
 
President David will be assisted in the chair by Club resident military guru, Ian Toohill. Howard Turner will apply the fine session "total recall" so do come loaded with coin.
 
Ian Toohill has requested members and guests wear Service Medals  to reflect their own Service (on left breast) or that of relatives from any theatre of conflict. (on right breast)

Reports from the floor:
1.  David McFarlane:  Cancellation of planned business breakfast at Greensborough Central on Tuesday 12 April
2. John Skinner: Coming events include Montmorency SC ‘Wheelchairs for Kids’ at Willinda Park, Greensborough. Volunteers for BBQ needed - as are sponsors for this event.
3. Les Coath: Reminder for ‘Every Rotarian Every Year’ to support Foundation
4. Kevin Hadingham:  Please complete surveys. 43 out of 60 received so far and being collated for club assembly in couple of weeks
5. Rob Kilkullen:  Great response re Anzac Day service with more than 35 volunteers. A booking has been made at The Common for breakfast afterwards at $25 a head. Great for Rotary and great for the wider community. On behalf of Michael Martin and Lou Bolzonello – profit from the 2015 Festival was $37,000
6. Graham Miles: Paul Kelly and Howard Turner are taking over the re-stocking of the trailer from Ken Paynter
7. David Laws: Packing of Aquaboxes at the shed on Sunday 17 April – volunteers needed
8. Ross McDonald: Didgeredoo Festival at Kings Reserve, Templestowe on Saturday 9 April
 
Speakers:  Brad Quilliam, Nina Lunde and Briallen Davies from RC Kinglake Ranges (chartered in 2011), were introduced by Mike Englefield who reminded us that the President of Rotary International  (Ray Klinginsmith), visited Kinglake and opened the Ellimatta Youth Space. RC Kinglake has been instrumental in providing a traumatised community with a sense of purpose since the Black Saturday bushfires on 7 February 2009 and is involved in a broad range of local activities including the monthly Produce & Artisan Market.

East Coast Golf Classic for Umoja Orphanage Kenya

EAST COAST GOLF CLASSIC FOR UMOJA ORPHANAGE KENYA
The Rotary Club of Shepparton Central in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Bundaberg Sunrise are organising a Golf Tournament to be played over 18 days on Golf Courses from Shepparton to Bundaberg and leaving Shepparton on 4th July, 2016 to raise funds for the Umoja Orphanage.
Umoja Orphanage is currently under construction and is a project of the Rotary Club of Bundaberg Sunrise. The Founder and driving force behind the project is Cathy Booth, a member of the Rotary E Club NextGen, based in Qld. The completion of the first children’s home is imminent and the freehold site on which the project is built is 15 acres at Ukunda, on the East Coast of Kenya. Umoja is a RAWCS Project
The trip is designed as a tag-a-long caravan/camping trip and not just for golfers, there is plenty of time for sightseeing and social activities along the way and opportunity to catch up with fellow Rotarians at the various locations at which we will stop to play golf. Local Rotary Clubs at most of the venues along the way are committed to helping with the event and to raise money for Umoja.

Anzac Day 2016
Anzac Day Dawn Service 2016
 
The Rotary Club of Eltham has managed and directed the dawn service at the Cenotaph for the past 2 years in partnership with Eltham/ Monty RSL.
Last years estimated attendance was approx. 8,000 people.
This year Rob Kilcullen and Ken Paynter are the directors and need the assistance of ERC members to help with various task from about 5.30am on ANZAC day, Monday April 25.
 
This year the service will focus on the Vietnam conflict as it is the 50th anniversary of the battle of Long Tan.

Those that have attended know this is a very moving experience.  The Rotary Club of Eltham has had a strong presence and it is once again important that we have a strong showing.
It is a good look for the community and the RSL that Rotary is involved, and it is a good look for our club to be there. 
Make sure that you wear your Yellow Shirts (Usually over the top of warmer clothing)
