President's Message
Last week’s discussions regarding the Men’s Shed building proposal gave us the opportunity to wave the Aquabox flag. “Seeing is believing”, so we are hosting Vicki Ward MP at the Shed this Friday morning and Nillumbik councillors next Thursday afternoon.
We were also able to give DG Tony and Pam Bramley a flying visit to Brisbane St prior to our club meeting. Tony is committed to spreading the word on Aquabox in his club visits throughout the District. He offered us opportunities for space in “Seeds”, the DG’s monthly newsletter, a program timeslot at the District Conference next March, and a display in the Hall of Friendship. He also encouraged us to liaise with a District Taskforce examining Rotary responses to natural disasters and to investigate support through RAWCS and Foundation.
Ian Kiddle is near to closing-in on a corporate sponsorship for the club. This is certainly shaping-up to be an exciting year for Aquabox if we can continue to build awareness and support from Business, State Government, Council and Rotary District.
Pam Bramley’s presentation and video of the “Orange Sky laundry” project was compelling and we were pleased to donate $500 to this initiative which brings dignity and self-respect to homeless people. If you were not able to be at the meeting, the video is readily found on Youtube and well worth watching.
It was great to welcome Judy’s return from France and have Ann back from Brisbane. (The President gets anxious without a President–Elect and Secretary around!). I look forward to seeing you at Club Assembly this week, sharing the developing strategic directions of the club, the proposed projects for this year, and hearing your ideas.

It is with sadness that I advise members that PP Nigel Bell has passed away after a long battle with cancer. Nigel was a member of the Rotary Club of Eltham from 1987 to 1996 and was Club President in 1993-94.  He also served on the Board as both New Generations and Community Service Directors. 
The Board and Rotary Club of Eltham members offer their condolences to his wife Kathryn and their family.
 
Funeral details are as follows:
BELL. The Funeral Service for the late Mr Nigel Gordon Bell will be held in Michael Crawford Funerals Chapel, 226 Main St, Bacchus Marsh on FRIDAY (Aug. 5, 2016) commencing at 11.00 a. m. A Private Cremation will follow No flowers by request. In lieu, please consider a donation to Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute in memory of Nigel. Envelopes will be provided at the Chapel.
 
This Week at Rotary 4th August

The new Board has set some strategic directions for the club for the coming year.
 Hear the 2016-17 draft budget and program outline and to put forward your ideas as we develop our 3 year strategic plan.  
If members have any issues they wish to raise, these should have already been forwarded to the Secretary (deadline was 30th July)
President Kevin will chair the meeting while Past President David McFarlane will strip us of our hard earned dollars

The Week That Was 28th July

Reports from the floor:
  1. Mike Englefield: Sunday BBQ - raised $650.00. The Nillumbik Council Meeting 26 July 2016 attended by approximately 12 RCE members to support the proposal of positioning the Men’s Shed within Nillumbik Shire. The outcome/decision by Councillors ( 4 voted in favour and 2 against) is to from a Liasion Committee to explore further options of a suitable site and  building design. The President of the Men’s Shed  requested that a thankyou be conveyed  to the RCE members who attended the Nillumbik Council meeting as evidence of their continuing relationship and in providing support on the night.
  2. Brett Linsell: reminder of  Rotaractors Trivia Night 19 Aug. Flyer circulated to ensure the list of RCE members attending is current.
  3. Alan McCleary: A Sunday awareness session to be conducted for Team Captains and interested members on management of the BBQ Trailer in near future.  On Wed 27 July a number of RCE members attended Ivanhoe Rotary Club to gain awareness of the Community House Preston involving the Somali population. This is in readiness and education on the proposed refugee population to be housed at St. Vincents residential facility Eltham  (previous Judge Book Village).
  4. Lou Bolzonello- Entertainment Books $65.00. 23/30 remaining; each book purchased results in a donation to the RCE. All members have received the invoice for Annual Dues. A reminder to all members to please pay promptly.
  5. Jules Aussems- On behalf of himself and family wished to personally thank all members for their good wishes at this difficult time.
  6. Ian Toohill - Spoke in support of the role of Interactors their commitment and on the transition to become Rotaractors and Rotarians.
Guest speaker: District Governor (DG) Tony Bramley & partner, Pam Bramley
The DG acknowledged Francis Acqua Assistant Governor (in attendance) and his role which is liaison with clubs and providing reports to the President. He congratulated the RCE on its number of activities, involvement and focus on key projects. He spoke about Strategic Planning, International Conference, District By-laws, District Directory, creation of new clubs and the District Conference.
Pam Bramley- Presented her project which is the Orange Sky Laundry which she introduced with a video. This is a mobile laundry service for the homeless which is gaining momentum around Australia. The aim is to raise a money to purchase the van and for the fitout. The president of the RCE presented  her with a cheque.

Thank you for an uplifting  evening with a strong club under your good leadership. I can see that the club is full of keen Rotarians. May you, the Board and members keep on doing Good in the World through Rotary Serving Humanity.
 
A special thanks to the club from Pam for the donation towards her project Orange Sky Laundry van.
