Despite the wet and cold, 8 of our incoming Board members took the trip to Benalla on Sunday to join 200 other Rotarians for the District Assembly for 2017-18 office bearers. Following some global presentations, group workshops reinforced the key elements of each Board portfolio, the experiences of clubs and possible innovative approaches. Judging by the discussion on the way home, Judy and her team picked up many new ideas to consider for 2017-18.
Next Thursday we celebrate the 44th birthday of THE Rotary Club of Eltham. A lot of things have changed in our club since 1973 and over the years members have enjoyed great fellowship and personal growth while delivering many inspiring projects to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in our community and overseas. Jim Phillips has been working on the club history project, collating information from a range of sources. Although Jim is recovering from his stroke, he has passed on material via his son Will to Paul Gardner for the night’s presentations. The evening will only enable a brief pen picture of our history and presentation of a couple of notable events but it’s timely to reflect on our past and the foundations of the club we enjoy today. Many colourful characters have also passed through our ranks and probably the most interesting anecdotes will be shared over a glass of red afterwards! I hope to see you at The Third Chapter this week for Victoria’s presentation, but if you’re heading away have a safe and happy Easter holiday!

This week's speaker is our very own Victoria Clague speaking on 'Delirium'.
Despite being first described more than 2,500 years ago, Delirium remains frequently unrecognised and poorly understood.
Delirium - an acute decline in brain function - is a common, serious and often fatal disorder that affects as much as 50% of elderly (65 and over) in hospital. Delirium is preventable in 30 to 40% of cases.
Australasian Delirium Society joined forces with the American and European Delirium Societies to form the International Delirium Consortium whose mission is to raise awareness of delirium and on March 15th 2017 hosted the first ever World Delirium day.

Margaret Lane: Please have orders for Rotary jackets at $75 in by 13 April for delivery by Anzac Day.
David McFarlane: Entertainment Books on sale at $70. An option is to take now and pay later.
Paul Kelly: BBQ achieved $902. Hot water in trailer now working – the gas supply having inadvertently been turned off.
Irene Cant: Raffle tickets circulating to support Foundation. Lots of goodies including Chivas Regal. To be drawn for Mother’s Day.
Rob Kilkullen: More volunteers required for the Anzac Day program from 5.00am to 7.00am. Kevin to organise breakfast arrangements. Eltham Youth will do all the music, readings etc.
Mike Englefield: Update on forthcoming speakers commencing with Victoria Clague next week presenting on ‘delirium’ and its causes.
Guest speaker this week was Lawrence Staub, a practising Chiropractor and a member of the Rotary Club of Sunbury. Lawrence is a founder and Director of South Pacific Allied Health which sponsors a range of programs in the Solomon Islands. These include programs to treat whole body tinea, provision of clean water as well as a sustainable income project through the processing of copra. Lawrence spoke passionately on these and other projects currently in place or planned as part of the 'Makira Project'. RC Eltham donated $500 toward this essential work.

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a 3-part series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day courses offered to refine a Rotarian's leadership skills and increase their base of knowledge in Rotary.
The next Part 1 RLI training session is on Sunday 4th June 2017, 9am to 1.30pm at Euroa Secondary College, Euroa.
