How inspiring are the youth who attended our meeting last week? It is certainly one of our best nights each year. Thanks to Sally, Ian and Brett for their hard work all year in ensuring that our club leads the way in assisting the Rotaract and Interact Clubs.
Last week's attendance of 73 members and guests was a great tribute to our youth and to the leaders from our Club who look after them.
I advised the Club a few weeks ago that I was determined to buy new microphones etc and that the Board had approved the purchase. This is taking a little longer than I would wish but I assure all members that it will happen shortly and that I am chasing up final quotes. We are also purchasing a new Laptop and Projector.
As we have spent many thousands on modifying our BBQ trailer this Rotary year we will leave the Club in good condition for next year.
Dale Atkins is delivering his 'Rotarian Behind The Badge' address this Thursday so make sure you are there to hear about the life of one of our Club's best workers and nicest members.

What a terrific Youth Services evening last Thursday; give kids a bit of encouragement and look at the enthusiastic response! Big thank you to Sally, Brett, Dale and the rest of the Youth team.
This week Dale Atkins will deliver his Rotarian Behind the Badge (RBTB). Dale has achieved much in a varied life and contributed plenty since he joined RC Eltham a couple of years back. As always, we anticipate a few gems within each RBTB so Dale's story is sure to continue the high standard.
President David will return on Thursday from a break in Adelaide. Think the McLaren Vale winemakers might enjoy a sales boost this week. Nick Ikonomou will be in the chair and Sally Squires will extract the beans.

Kevin outlined the results of the recently conducted survey of Members. Survey results and specific suggestions have been given to Directors who will use these in framing their goals for 2016/17.
Questions/comments from the floor included discussion on the structure of the Aquabox project, reporting festival results and marketing of projects.
Macca and Mike Englefield reported on a possible future venue for Aquabox. A committee comprising Peter Roden, Mike Englefield, David McFarlane, Ken Paynter, Kevin Hadingham and Judy Sharp was tasked to explore this further.
Donation of $750 to St Margaret’s Church in Eltham to support the Church Gallery Project. A permanent sign acknowledging the Rotary Club of Eltham’s contribution will be erected.
LEP BBQ – Paul Kelly and Howard Turner are assisting Mike Wetzler in restocking trailer. Ken Paynter is away on his grey nomad caravan trip.
A Thurs evening at Dale’s Den will be organized for club members (BBQ and demonstration of how to use all the BBQ equipment).
CAVE (Community and Volunteers of Eltham)
A further $1800 has been committed for two further students. This is an ongoing Community Service project.
Other projects are currently being appraised – assistance with Syrian refugees to be housed at Judge Book, protective structure around the Lone Pine at Eltham High School, additional seating at Lower Eltham Park, assistance with upkeep of Eltham Girl Guides hall.
The next meeting of District RFE due to have been held on the 22nd May has been postponed until later in July.
The team to Romania will be back by then, as will the team to Long Island, so they should provide interesting reports, particularly in view of the intention by both of those Districts to repeat these exchanges on a regular basis.
Dates for some of the proposed exchanges for 2017 - 18 should be firmed up by then, it is hoped that exchanges with Germany, Philippines and Southern Queensland for 2017 and Denmark and India for 2018will be confirmed.
Adding to those, particularly in 2018 might be a repeat exchange to Romania or Long Island.

Wheel Chairs for Kids
Fundraiser 27 May
On Friday the 27th May the Interact Club of Eltham based at Montmorency Secondary College is hosting a Wheel chair Marathon at Willinda Park Greensborough to raise funds to pay for rugged terrain wheel chairs to be sent to Timor Leste to change the lives of children without one.
The event starts at 3:30 pm at the end of the school day and will finish by 10pm that night using wheel chairs provided by Wheelchairs for Kids.
It involves teams of four taking turns to wheel each other around the athletics track in sample wheelchairs to raise funds pledged by sponsors, at an amount per lap.
This is a whole community event supported by the College and Rotary Club of Eltham. Members of the local community are encouraged to register by contacting Ian Toohill at the college toohill.ian.g @edumail.vic.gov.au for sign up and pledge forms, or call into the College in Para Road Montmorency for the forms and start raising funds.
The chairs which are made by retired Rotarian volunteers in Perth cost only $200 and are fully adjustable so can be a adapted as the children grow.
The aim of the activity is to raise at least $5000 which will pay for 20 chairs to be shipped to Timor Leste via the Rotary International logistics network, to change the lives of the recipients.
Over the past decade thousands of these wheel chairs have been sent to developing nations around the world giving children a new life and hope for the future.
The event will involve novelty races, entertainment and music. And will be a fun event for all involved.
The Rotary Club of Eltham Sausage Sizzle trailer will be on hand from 5:30 pm and participants will be able to buy snags for $2 with all funds going to the cause. Students can have one free. The canteen staff from the College, have also offered to provide their services with hot soup and snacks for all.
Businesses are also encouraged to ‘buy’ a wheelchair for $200 which is fully tax deductable and have their name on it when delivered to the recipient.
