Our guest speakers last week, Eddie Raphael and Teresa Cavalier-Dorian, gave us a comprehensive overview of Relay for Life. This is a community fundraising opportunity to raise vital funds for cancer patients. Most of us have been touched by cancer in one way or another and RCE’s involvement in the Diamond Valley Relay for Life next March is definitely worthy of our consideration.
JOB VACANCY – Looking for someone to become RCE’s Relay for Life (RfL) Coordinator. Following last week’s presentation, the general feeling of the meeting was that RCE should look to get involved in supporting RfL and helping to raise valuable funds. Hence it would be terrific if one of our members would like to take on the RfL Coordinator’s role. Please let me know if you are interested! The role would be to liaise with DVRfL, receive and disseminate information to members and come up with some suggestions as to how RCE could support the fundraising effort. As this is a community event, the RfL Coordinator could work with Paul and Community Committee members.
Thank you to Ross McDonald who has been RCE’s Rotary Friendship Exchange Coordinator for several years. Ross provided an overview of this program to members last week and is now handing the role over to PP Rob Kilcullen. Thanks Rob for offering to take up this role.
There was a scurry of activity at the shed on Sunday with some furious packing of Aquaboxes – 122 boxes are now packed and ready to be shipped. Special thanks and well done to those who helped: Dale, Dave and Jacob Laws, Graeme Hardiman, John Skinner, Irene, Chris, Keith, John Roberts and Penny Atkins. Wow, what a super-efficient team effort!
And ‘welcome back’ to John and Kerry Skinner who have been travelling OZ for the last few weeks.
We have our second round of Club Committee meetings this week. These meetings are about doing Rotary work on a Rotary night so there won’t be a guest speaker. Instead we will enjoy some fellowship and a meal together, then we’ll disperse into Committee meetings. As it is the HGC’s AGM, we will meet in the Eaglemont room this week.
President Jill
Lower Eltham Park BBQ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
You are responsible for finding a replacement if you are unable to do your rostered duty and to notify Lyn Truran ljtruran@bigpond.com
Our second round of Club Committee meetings will be held this week. The reasons we’re trialling running these meetings on a club night include:
Inclusion – as many members as possible can be involved in the sharing of our Rotary work
Looking after busy members – reduces the number of committee meetings that need to be held at other times
Improving communication – membership of a committee means you get to find out what work is going on in that team
Helping new members and those not on a committee – to learn about the work of different committees
Committee meetings to be held next week are likely to include: Aquabox, Youth Services, Community, Public Relations, Membership, International, Festival layout team.
If you are not on a committee? Then members are encouraged to visit one or a couple of the committee meetings as an observer. Everyone’s thoughts and opinions are important and having as many of our members as possible involved in Rotary work is also very important. Please join us if you can!
