27 February 2020
Ian Toohill and I were guest speakers at the RC of Bundoora. Ian's talk on the current state of the project and the planned trip to Nepal later this year was well received. Bundoora now has 15 members and growing. After the meeting we had dinner at the Watsonia Bistro. It was a good night and we also got to catch up with Rod Ferris, a former RC of Eltham member.
Tuesday night is the RC of Heidelberg bushfire fundraiser at Watsonia RSL, with the social meeting Thursday night at Machan's.
Our thoughts and best wishes to Jim Phillips as he continues treatment in the Austin Hospital. Thanks to Club members who have visited Jim. He much appreciates them.

President John

Rotary Club of Hondo Bushfire Fundraising
The Rotary Club of Hondo, Amakusa, Japan held a bushfire fundraising activity on February 22nd. The aim of the activity was to raise money, through donations, for native animals injured in the recent bushfires. The fundraiser was first suggested by Ayame Hasumoto, who was the club's last exchange student to the Rotary Club of Eltham, in August 2019. Hondo Rotary Club members all agreed to help her out with her idea. Rotarians, Interact members and student volunteers took part in the activity. Volunteer students from Amakusa High School, Amakusa Technical High School, Takushin High School and Hondo Nursing School stood with boxes to collect money in four locations at shopping malls and supermarket entrances.
The Rotary Club of Hondo will send the money raised to RCE, with instructions to give the money to an appropriate animal rescue organisation.
