It was with a very sad heart that I received the phone call from P.P. Michael Ramsay to inform me of the passing of his lovely wife Elizabeth. Elizabeth fought bravely in recent years whilst being very ill. She was a fun and loving person who enjoyed life, was always a lady, and very hospitable.
Some of us will remember a wonderful weekend at Cowes staying at the Ramsay home and being generously looked after by Elizabeth. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and his family at this very tough time.
This week we have our Festival Launch presented by our new and enthusiastic Festival Director Jill Ramsay, and we look forward to another informative meeting.
A reminder about the 'Wheelchairs for Kids' event this Friday 27th May at Willinda Park, Beatrix Street, Greensborough commencing at 2pm and closing at 10 p.m.

RAMSAY. The Funeral Service to Honour the Life of Elizabeth Ramsay will be held at Heidelberg Golf Club, 8 Main Road, Lower Plenty on FRIDAY (May 27, 2016) commencing at 2.30 p. m. Private Cremation to follow In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eltham Rural Group, envelopes available at the Service.

This week Eltham Town Festival Director, Jill Ramsay, will launch the 2016 edition of the important Community event. The Festival will take centre stage on the second weekend in November (12th & 13th). This is Jill’s first year as Director. Together with her team, she is certain to maintain the high standard set in recent years by “Team” Kilcullen. The Festival is not only big in the Community but also THE vital annual RC Eltham Club fundraiser.
President David will oversee proceedings. Melissa Anderson will return to weekly Club meetings and has agreed to chair. The finemaster is Ron Manison
Venue is The Common, 6.15pm for 6.45pm, $35 for two course meal with drinks at bar prices. Do try to make the meeting to demonstrate your support for Jill and her team.
Thankyou: President David thanked Ron Manison for his efforts in oganising the BBQ roster over the past year. He also announced that the Board has accepted Roger Male’s resignation from the Club due to ill health and, in wishing Roger well, he thanked him for his work as Public Officer over many years. Thanks were also extended to Howard Turner for making some very necessary improvements to the BBQ trailer.
President David also reported back on the Board meeting held on 18 May:
a quote for a new sound system was approved and the system should be installed in the next few weeks
donations approved include $1500 to the Wheelchair for Kids project, and $5000 to Foundation. David reminded members that there is still time to make a tax deductible donation to Foundation this financial year

1. Ian Toohill & John Skinner reported on the Wheelchair for Kids basketball match on 11 May and reminded us of the Wheelchair Marathon on 27 May. Additional helpers are required from 3.30pm.
2. Ann Lynch advised of a new system for registering attendance at meetings - members must reply to weekly email.
3. Mike Wetzler advised that he will need orders for new club jackets by 21 May.
4. Brett Linsell reported that the Rotaractors have another fundraising film night coming up.
5. Ian Thomas reported that NZRAWS has requested 60 Aquaboxes to be pre-positioned in Fiji.
6. Jill Ramsay advised that next week she will present the 2016 Festival plan.
7. Gordon Birch advised that he had visited past Rotarian John Ritter who is ill in hospital.

A successful day.
The gross takings from today's Muskaan BBQ were $1100.60.
The BBQ was manned by Kevin & Marion with Matt Walsh and Siobhan Finlayson (volunteers from Muskaan Support Australia) for the club's RAWCS registered Muskaan School project. The net proceeds from today will make a useful contribution to the construction of the school for children from the slums in Bhopal, India.
Many thanks to Ron Manison, John O'Callaghan and Jim Phillips for your assistance in set-up and getting us going this morning.
Lower Eltham Park BBQ ROSTER beginning July till the end of December 2016

This is an important Club project, and Lyn has taken on a difficult task. If you don't advise her of the dates you will be unavailable, you will be rostered and expected to find a replacement if you change the Roster.

Wheel Chairs for Kids
This Friday the 27th May the Interact Club of Eltham based at Montmorency Secondary College is hosting a Wheel chair Marathon at Willinda Park Greensborough to raise funds to pay for rugged terrain wheel chairs to be sent to Timor Leste to change the lives of children without one.
The event starts at 3:30 pm at the end of the school day and will finish by 10pm that night using wheel chairs provided by Wheelchairs for Kids.
It involves teams of four taking turns to wheel each other around the athletics track in sample wheelchairs to raise funds pledged by sponsors, at an amount per lap.
This is a whole community event supported by the College and Rotary Club of Eltham. Members of the local community are encouraged to register by contacting Ian Toohill at the college toohill.ian.g @edumail.vic.gov.au for sign up and pledge forms, or call into the College in Para Road Montmorency for the forms and start raising funds.
The chairs which are made by retired Rotarian volunteers in Perth cost only $200 and are fully adjustable so can be a adapted as the children grow.
You might have seen them featured this week on the ABC.
The aim of the activity is to raise at least $5000 which will pay for 20 chairs to be shipped to Timor Leste via the Rotary International logistics network, to change the lives of the recipients.
Over the past decade thousands of these wheel chairs have been sent to developing nations around the world giving children a new life and hope for the future.
The event will involve novelty races, entertainment and music. And will be a fun event for all involved.
The Rotary Club of Eltham Sausage Sizzle trailer will be on hand from 5:30 pm and participants will be able to buy snags for $2 with all funds going to the cause. The canteen staff from the College, have also offered to provide their services with hot soup and snacks for all.
Businesses are also encouraged to ‘buy’ a wheelchair for $200 which is fully tax deductable and have their name on it when delivered to the recipient.

The Rotary Club of Eltham are a Sponsor of the Art, Exhibition and talks being held at St. Margatet’s Church & Hall starting Friday 13th and running to 29th May.
The Club are contributing towards a lighting upgrade within the church to the tune of $750.00.
