19 October 2017
I’m just back from the greeting those fit and determined runners/walkers who took part in the Melbourne Marathon on a lovely Sunday morning. Graham Miles led the charge finishing the half marathon in less than 2 hours. Jill and Victoria talked and walked the 10kms and admirable performances were also put in by Alan McCleary and family, Daryl Wallace and Dale Atkins. Congratulations to all.
The news on Macca in Maui is that there is no real change. Macca is still sedated but is now off the ventilator. Through Ian Kiddle, I’ll keep you all informed should there be any change.
The Board met on Monday night. Among the matters discussed were 38 resolutions proposed to be put to the RI Council on Resolutions. Please speak to me if you would like to see and/or comment on the proposed resolutions. We hope to have the quarterly service report ready this week and will distribute it to everyone.
This is our last week at Third Chapter - next week marks a new chapter for the Club when we move to Heidelberg Golf Club. Cheers,
President Judy

This Week at Rotary
Another week and another great speaker lined up for this Thursday 19 October.  This is the last meeting at The Third Chapter before moving our meetings to the Heidelberg Golf Club.
We are pleased to have Professor Damien Kingsbury, Director of the Masters of International and Community Development at Deakin University, who will be talking on Timor-Leste's current circumstances, including its recent elections and the agreement with Australia re the long running dispute over maritime boundaries in the Timor Sea.
Timor-Leste is one of our closest neighbours but one of the world’s poorest countries.Ravaged by war and 24 years of Indonesian occupation and the almost total destruction of all infrastructure following the independence vote of 1999, Timor-Leste is struggling with a fragile economy, high unemployment, massive food insecurity, poor quality education and health services.
Come along and hear how Timor Leste is handling the changes and new government following the recent elections.
