A reminder … NO MEETING AT HGC THIS THURSDAY. Instead, as per the recent email to all members from Irene (on 23/9), a social dinner for Rotarians and partners has been arranged at Stix and Stones in Lower Plenty for this Thur, 28th Sep. Please RSVP to Irene Cant by the end of Tue 25/9. And thank you to Irene for organising this social get-together.
Last week, Graeme Kent OAM, PHF and Founding Director of Aussie Action Abroad, gave an insightful account of an educational training facility proposal to be built in Pokhara, approx. 200km NW of Kathmandu in Nepal. Graeme is keen for Rotary (possibly 3-4 clubs) to become a partner in the project and to assist with the provision of financial and construction support. International Chair, Rob Kilcullen, will provide further information to members and at our club meeting on Oct 4th, Rob will lead a discussion with members seeking feedback and general interest in whether or not RCE should participate in the project. Stay tuned for further information.
At our meeting also, PP Judy and I had the pleasure of representing the Rotary Foundation and presenting two Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) +1 sapphire pins to two of our members. Past Presidents Graeme Hardiman and Michael Englefield, previously recognised by our club as PHFs, have been recognised by the Rotary Foundation for their personal contributions to Foundation which have now exceeded US$1,000. Graeme and Mike are to be congratulated on their ongoing commitment to supporting Foundation, RCE and Rotary more generally.
A couple of invitations for members to consider are:-

District 9790, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program that brings together youth and young adults, ages 18-30, to further develop character and leadership skills and learn about Rotary. RYLA is an intensive experience-based conference 7 days and 6 nights. The RYLA Conference is organised by previous RYLArians and Rotarians from across the District.Participants are nominated by local Rotary clubs or self nominated after hearing about the conference through friends. The conference offers the opportunity to build self-confidence, gain exposure to a variety of issues and people, meet active community leaders, and learn valuable information and career skills.RYLA gives young leaders the opportunity to serving their own communities and beyond. In turn, RYLA can bring new energy to a Rotary district, inspire ideas for service, increase support of community service projects, and develop future Rotarians. Each RYLA shares the following program objectives to:
demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth
encourage and assist young people in responsible and effective voluntary youth leadership by providing them with a valuable training experience
foster continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth
publicly recognize the many young people who are rendering service to their communities as youth leaders
Contact Nick at nick@coachnick.com.au or M: 0419 342 766 if you are aware of any aspiring young leaders who may be interested.
