As the Rotary year enters the "last quarter "I think it is time to reflect on members who do jobs to assist our club but "fly under the radar". Our weekly barbecue is giving us a regular income source and substantially assisting our financial position and I would like to thank Ron Manison for his great efforts in preparing the roster and often filling in for members who can't fulfill their obligations. Ron asks members to arrange their own swaps but he is often left to sort out replacements when members can't attend; this proves very difficult and Ron often attends himself. So, firstly thank you Ron for your continual support of the BBQ. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and secondly, please everyone else take your responsibilities seriously. If you are rostered on you are expected to attend or arrange a substitute. I suggest we all ask a family member or friend to help expand our BBQ roster and reduce our workload.
This Thursday we have our Kinglake Ranges colleagues attend to fill us in on the progress they have made in their first five years, so an interesting night is assured.

Hard to believe only 12 weeks remain of President David's Presidency. So, we commence this quarter at high level with a 5 year Report Card by Kinglake Ranges Rotary Club. The sponsorship of RC Kinglake Ranges, 2 years after the February 2009 bush fires, was surely one of the most important initiatives of RC Eltham over the last 10 years. Brad Quilliam, founding President will lead the presentation and be supported by 2 other Club members. As we heard several weeks back from Sue Gunningham the Community of Kinglake has struggled to resume a coherent life. The Rotary Club of Kinglake Ranges has played a vital part in the rebuild of spirit and facilities.
To mark the important occasion two Past District 9790 Governors, Alan Anderson (2010-2011) & Mani Seneviratne (2004-2005) will attend. Both contributed a wealth of Rotary knowledge to assist the Founding of RC Kinglake Ranges.
President David will be supported by Mike Englefield (Club President 2010-2011) as chair. Mike & Brad spent countless hoursfrom planning to inauguration in April 2011. Margaret Lane will exercise her "total recall" to fleece the patrons.
This is a must evening for all Club Members, great opportunity for new Members to learn some history of important RC Eltham support
The venue is The Common, 6.15pm for 6.45pm; $35 for two course meal, drinks at bar prices.

The Rotary Club of Eltham has managed and directed the dawn service at the Cenotaph for the past 2 years in partnership with Eltham/ Monty RSL.
Last years estimated attendance was approx. 8,000 people.
This year Rob Kilcullen and Ken Paynter are the directors and need the assistance of ERC members to help with various task from about 5.30am on ANZAC day, Monday April 25.
This year the service will focus on the Vietnam conflict as it is the 50th anniversary of the battle of Long Tan.
Those that have attended know this is a very moving experience. The Rotary Club of Eltham has had a strong presence and it is once again important that we have a strong showing.
It is a good look for the community and the RSL that Rotary is involved, and it is a good look for our club to be there.
Make sure that you wear your Yellow Shirts (Usually over the top of warmer clothing)
This week’s speaker was Andrew Barras from Relief Lans.
Relief Lans run 4 events a year where kids can come to St Johns Church in Diamond Creek, pay $20 and play computer games together. Participants bring their computer, Xbox, Wi or Playstation and the Relief Lans team provide power and internet access for kids to play purchased, internet or downloaded games from 10am Thursday until 5pm Saturday. Doors are locked at 10pm and reopened again at 8am but most kids play the games all night and catch just a few hours sleep on a church pew. Average age is 18 to 24 years with 10-20% being female. They generally get between 40 to 50 participants. It is a clean event, no alcohol, drugs or R18 games allowed. All money raised goes to charity.
