President's Message
I hope you have all enjoyed your long weekend. We eased our way into it with a casual night last Thursday. It was nice to be entertained by Melanie Wason - she is a delightful young woman and an excellent entertainer. Remember this week we have a 'split round' with most of the club attending our Vocational visit to RAWCS Donations in Kind store in Footscray. Gary W, Graham M, myself and our wives have been invited to WEHI for a thank you night so you can all have a night without me this week.

We will be meeting on Thursday 24th March and we look forward to Dave Laws' 'Rotarian behind the Badge' address. I promise to conduct a very punctual meeting so that those heading off for the Easter break can hit the road.

I attended the auction of 1 Brisbane St, Eltham last Thursday. It sold, but I spoke to the purchaser who said we should be able to use 'Dale's Den', formerly ' Rat's Shed' for at least 12 months. I will follow this up during the week and keep the club informed. Directors are reminded of our Board meeting this Wednesday 16 th March at 16 Diosma Rd Eltham - 6-30 pm for dinner.

President David

A Thank you from Lyn Hardiman
Thank you to the Eltham Rotarians who helped me in raising money for my 60km Peter Mac Walk next month.

The special effort, that I had tickets for sale at our Rotary night out at Prosciutto Brothers, was drawn last Sunday with a number of the entrants present.  The lucky winner was drawn by a special Guest and good friend in P.P Joseph Deveraux from the Hawthorn Rotary Club.

I felt that to give just one prize, even though it was quite substantial, wasn’t enough so I was able to add several more prizes making it a very worthwhile event.

The winner was a local from the Mornington Peninsula and happy to say she was present at the draw. However two further prizes went to Rotarian John Skinner and Rotarian Partner Judy Aussems.

The monies raised from this special effort and adding to many other generous peoples donations means that I have now raised in excess of the required amount to qualify to do the Walk, my past three years now amount to over $10,000.00.

As an aside our Group, called the Walkie Talkies, were recently advised that the monies we have raised over the past 3 years, well in excess of $350,000.00, is enough to pay for three Researchers for 12 months. This is more than rewarding for our little efforts as the Peter Mac Research Team are constantly making huge inroads in the battle to overcome Cancer.

Again my sincere thanks,
Lyn Hardiman

What's it all about?
Donations In Kind is a Rotary Service that collects "stuff" at a central warehouse and distributes it in containers to where it is needed.   The Donations are In Kind with a Nominal Value, much better than sending cash.  This is your opportunity to see for yourself, and have a good night out.

Thank you from Doncaster All Abilities Basketball
A donation of $500 was made by President David at the recent meeting attended by Doncaster All Abilities Basketball members.

Dear Eltham Rotary,
Simon, Jarrod and I would like to thank you for your warm welcome on Thursday night. Jarrod said you made him feel very comfortable as sometimes people find it hard to imagine he has a disability. I was teaching at the special school Jarrod was at and I know what hard work it has been for him to establish himself in a world that is often not inclusive. He now has a job and is making every effort to lead a successful life. He loves coming to training with Simon on Sundays.
For a long time we have been concerned that we only have one training session and it is all in together from 7 year olds and quite disabled athletes to elite, large, strong athletes. The funding you gave us will enable us to trial two training sessions on a Sunday. This new session will develop elite athletes and our stronger players in championship and division1 level.
This new training program will need to be passed by the committee at our next meeting but I am sure they will agree with it because they have expressed concern about our current training program.
Remember we would love to see you at a game. We play at DISC stadium on Springvale Road Donvale on Thursday and Friday nights during school term starting at 6pm.
On Thursday the 17th March we have our grand final night which means there will be no games on the Friday night.
Once again thank you for caring about Doncaster All Abilities Basketball.
Kind Regards
Gail Dick
