RCE contributes to the Rotary Foundation every year and our donation supports service projects worldwide. During the last 100 years, the Foundation has spent $3billion US dollars on life changing, sustainable projects. Helping to wipe out 99.9% of all polio cases in the world is an example of how Foundation funds have been used.
Last week’s footy night raised in excess of $1700 for Foundation. A super effort! We had two excellent speakers, Gus Smarrini and Lizzie Broadbent. Gus challenged our memory with some footy trivia and interesting footy facts whilst Lizzie gave us an insight into her involvement in AFL time keeping, umpiring and support of the AFL Women’s League. Thankyous a-plenty are owed to many people for helping to make our Footy night the success that it was:-
  • Gus and Lizzie for entertaining us and broadening our AFL knowledge base, in all things trivia and otherwise
  • Alison and Andrew Cooper for organising our guest speakers as well as an Advice for Living donation of an AFL Grand-final Lunch and Melbourne Storm scarf. It was great to see Allison at footy night too!
  • Irene Cant and Judy Sharp for organising footy night as well as providing a number of raffle items
  • Ian Kiddle and the Good Guys Preston for donating electrical goods
  • Marendaz Accountants and Business Consultants for donation of wine
  • Ernita Songahid for donation of wine
  • Our members, partners and visitors who came along, joined in, had some fun and generously supported our raffle and auction. Thank you everyone!
The RCE Board met last week, for the third time, and committee work is well underway. Whilst it’s hard to believe, almost a quarter of the Rotary year has already gone! We will update all members on the work of our committees in our first RCE Quarterly update which will be shared with members during October.
At this week’s meeting, an update on the work of the Nominating Committee (for a 2020-21 RCE President and 2019-20 Board Executives and Directors) will be given and a follow up email will be sent to all members. Graham Kemp OAM, PHF, and Aussie Action Abroad founder, will be our Guest Speaker and he will provide an overview of a proposed educational and vocational training infrastructure project in Nepal. Rob Kilcullen will Chair the meeting.
Family of Rotary update: Welcome home to Ron Manison who was discharged from hospital yesterday following hip replacement surgery last week.
