We had a happy and successful return to the Heidelberg Golf Club last Thursday with many longer term members saying it felt like coming home. Our welcome from HGC was very warm and it does feel good to be wanted. Many thanks to General Manager Lindsay Bell for his introductory tour and to the staff for being so accommodating and making our return very easy and happy.
Less than two weeks to go to festival - and all fingers and toes are crossed for a fine weekend weatherwise. There are many new attractions this year so the festival will have quite a new and fresh feel to it. Thanks to all those who have volunteered to assist - I know it is a huge imposition on your time but it is our major fundraising event of the year and we really do need as many hands-on-deck as possible for the weekend. We will have the first of the festival briefings this Thursday evening and again I urge as many people as possible to attend so that you know what to expect and how to assist the public during the weekend. You can find out more about all the attractions/music/kids activities and Have  a Go Oval activities on the festival website at http://www.elthamfestival.org.au or on Facebook at http://www.facebook/elthamfestival

The news on Macca is that there is no change to his condition and he remains in intensive care in Melbourne. He is not allowed visitors other than family members at the present time. As you would understand Marlene is being overwhelmed with text messages so please adhere to the arrangements we set up a few weeks ago whereby Ann and I will act as 'go between' and keep you informed of any substantial change in Macca’s condition. Cheers,
President Judy

Get a team of 4 together or let us arrange one for you.  Come along for a fun day and try to win the Community Bank® Golf Day title for your club/group.
History Shorts: District Conference Mildura
From its beginning in 1973, the Club aimed to develop an Eltham character, and from the ‘play it by ear’ attitude, little attention was paid to our District. It was probably not until 1976 that an effort was made to attend the District Conference. The conference was to be in Swan Hill, however, when all the registrations were received it was considered that there was insufficient accommodation and the conference was moved to Mildura.
Despite the further distance Eltham Rotarians agreed to go. Running late, Norm and Judy Tilling flew up while the rest drove. We had sole occupancy of a motel which had a good open centre area with swimming pool. The Saturday evening program was an open-air affair at a sports ground; we were not terrible impressed with the event. Fortunately, Greg and Marie Papworth had their son, Tasman, in a carry-cot so we loaded this up with supplies of food and grog and headed back to the motel. A good fellowship evening was held.
Late in the evening one Rotarian, possibly Ken Ferguson, realised that he had left his keys inside his room and decided to re-enter via the breakfast hatch. After a few squeezy moments this was accomplished. Later still, some decided to have a swim which brought the manager running out to say that he had super chlorinated the pool and they were in danger of their hair going green!
Leaving on the Sunday it was agreed to drive back via Swan Hill and meet for lunch at what Heather and I heard as the ‘Old Gym’. Norm and Judy got a lift with Bob and Thelma McLellan and somehow managed to fit into the back seat of Mclellan’s Mercedes coupe. We arrived at Swan Hill and had an enjoyable lunch on the ‘Old Gem’ including I seem to remember witchety grub soup!
