12 March 2020
Last Thursday we held our Committee Meeting night. On this night the committee chairs met with their respective committees and new members and prospective members were invited to circulate around the different groups to get an insight into the many varied projects our club is undertaking.
Before we broke out into our different groups we had Directors' reports. Well done to Brett Linsell and the Interact Club of St Helena SC for their great effort in raising over $5000 participating in Relay for Life. Our own Brett notched up an impressive 32 km on hardly any sleep. In his own words he was “Knackered”. Well done Brett.
Howard Turner then hit us in the fine session with the Toilet Roll Fine, followed by those who didn’t attend the great Lunch on the Deck at Rye. Then he fined those who did attend. Good session Howard.
We also had two guests attend, Mike Lynch and Gareth Thomas, who are prospective members. A good night to gain an insight into our club and its projects.
I attended the Festival Committee meeting where Rob Kilcullen and Ann Lynch updated us on this year’s Festival. Rob, Ann and President Elect Frank Lynch will meet with Council officers on Tuesday to sort out the finer details. We have an in-principal agreement for a three year agreement with the same funding as last year with a CPI increase starting next year (and also for the 3rd year).
This week Brigette Duckworth, a PhD scholar from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, returns to our club to give us an update on her PhD project. This will be an informative and interesting talk as Brigette is a very good speaker, so make sure you come along, it will be a great night. The club will present Brigette with $5000 towards her scholarship, which we started last year.
Only a week and a half to go till Conference, still time to come and enjoy the fun. Contact Frank Lynch if you are a last minute attendee. We also need to finalise numbers attending the Thai restaurant on Fri 20th March.
