Well done and thank you to Irene Cant who gave us an absorbing Rotarian Behind the Badge (RBTB) presentation last week. Post WW2, Irene’s father set off from Malta to Melbourne in search of work and a new life for his family of eight children. What a remarkable life story and thank you Irene for sharing part of your life’s journey with us. A RBTB session never fails to both entertain as well as give us a deeper understanding and appreciation of the person that we thought we knew well. Clearly, there’s always something more that we can learn! As we’re keen to build a data base of those who have or have not done a RBTB presentation, for club record purposes, please keep an eye out for a list that will be circulating around in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks also to International Chair, Rob Kilcullen, for providing an overview of the proposed Nepal project including the nature of our involvement and whom we would be partnering with. There was an opportunity to raise any questions and the next step now is to let Rob know if you would be interested in participating in the project that would see the construction of an educational training facility in Nepal. At its next meeting on Oct 17th, the RCE Board will consider the level of interest from members before making any further decisions regarding the club’s participation in this international project.
What a great day to be on BBQ duty last Sunday. The weather was sunny and warm (for a change), and it seemed like most of the Diamond Valley was out and about on the last day of the school holidays. Well done to Graham Miles, Con and Ash McFarlane who were well supported by a crew of young folk from Diamond Valley Learning Centre (DVLC). Special thanks to DVLC staff member Maritsa along with students Kaine, Shane, Samantha, Mitchell, Daniel and Tristan for their terrific effort also. BBQ proceeds will go to the DVLC.
The wanderers are starting to return … it was great to see some of our travelling Rotarians back at Rotary last week. Alan McCleary, Lyn Truran and Frank Lynch were back on deck again and word has it that Mike Wetzler, John Roberts and Howard Turner are back in town again too. Lots of travellers' tales to be shared.

'Relay For Life' is a chance for communities to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them. Relay also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer.
'Diamond Valley Relay for Life' has raised over one million dollars and the last event celebrated our 10th year anniversary. The Diamond Valley event was originally started by a Rotary Club.
'Relay for Life' hopes to strengthen its ties with Rotary and aim to make the next event on 23rd and 24th March 2019 the best year yet.
