The Week That Was - Report on Club Meeting 13 August 2015

A special welcome was given to Johnny and Mamiko who have been working with the Club on the Japanese Exchange program for 25 years.
President David thanked Dale and David for their work on the audio on meeting nights and the Board for its work at a meeting on 12 August. He wished Marion Hadingham a speedy recovery from her recent stint in hospital.
Reports from the Floor
Graham Miles:
- Promoted the Prostate Cancer Support Group luncheon on 23 October. President David will be heading a table of 10 – all members available on that day are urged to attend.
Les Coath:
- Promoted Every Rotarian Every Year
Lou Bolzonello:
- Reminded all that fees are now due.
- Reminded all about the Lords Taverner’s Raffle. He has a few books left and is ordering more. See Lou if you can sell some tickets.
Peter Roden:
- Displayed bottles of water with Aquabox labels which will be sold at the weekly BBQ and at the Festival
- Passed around photos received from The Thin Green Line of rangers using Aquaboxes in the field.
Reports from Japanese Exchange students
Amelia will be leaving Melbourne for Japan in late November and is looking forward to the trip and the experience
Momoka has been attending Montmorency Secondary College for the past 6 weeks and staying with Leni Law-Davies. Momoka said that she has enjoyed her stay, has had many new experiences and thanked everyone for the opportunity to take part in the exchange program.
Leni went to Japan last Christmas and had an amazing time. She has enjoyed hosting Momoka and will be sad to see her return to Japan.
Guest Speaker Alan Fields OAM PHF
Alan has been a volunteer advocate at Judge Book village for the past 43 years. He outlined the recent changes at Judge Book including the sale of the village to not for profit provide St Vincent’s Care. Hand over occurred on Tuesday 11 August.
There are currently only 38 Independent Living residents at the Village. St Vincent's are not planning to change the model but recognise that there is a lot of repair and maintenance to be done. Other plans include an increase in the size of Willandra (low care) and the high care facility plus the inclusion of a polymedical facility.
The Rotary Club of Eltham has had a long association with Judge Book including supporting the village bus. It is hoped to maintain this relationship. St Vincent’s are also keen to retain their relationship with the Men’s Shed including providing a facility for meetings.
Men’s Shed
Jim Gundrem reported that the Men’s Shed has now been at Judge Book for 12 months. Seed funding was provided by the Rotary Club of Eltham and also from Rotary District 9790. There are now 40 members. They have developed great relationships with residents, meet weekly at the Village, drive the JB bus and are looking forward to working with St Vincent's.
