The “Miles Marathon” Sunday lunch (18 October 2015) is traditionally held as a Club meeting in lieu of a normal Thursday night meeting.
 
This year there will not be a Club meeting on Thurs 22 October 2015.  Members are however encouraged, as a fellowship opportunity, to support  Shourouk at The Common on that night by participating in her “Food Fair “ meal which is being held during that week in conjunction with other Eltham restaurants.
 
The Food Fair week will showcase the fare of local producers including Eltham Farmers Market stall holders.We understand that the night will include a presentation by former Eltham Rotarian, Chris Chapple, in which he will talk about the food  that is produced by these passionate Eltham area people.
 
Bookings for the night should be made directly with Shourouk on 9439-9514

Acknowledgements: Thanks to Margaret Lane for a great Aquabox presentation at RC Nunawading and the donations that followed. Thanks also to John O’Callaghan for his efforts in successfully upgrading the BBQ trailer!

Reports from the floor:
1.Ann Lynch: see Peter Roden re attending the final Redbox Winery event on Melbourne Cup Day - this is run in conjunction with RCs of Nunawading & Mitcham. Please have any apologies for next week in by 5pm next Tuesday.
 
Festival Committee meeting on 12th October is at Ann’s house, not Ken Paynter’s as advertised in the Bulletin.
 
Polo shirts after tonight available only through Membership Committee, for those who have outstanding orders, please arrange payment and collection.
 
2. Graeme Miles: Training hard for the marathon – see website to enter events/order shirts. See Sally re the 12.30pm lunch afterwards at The Pavilion. Cost is $30 to be paid in advance. Great day - last year there were 25,000 people

3. Ross McDonald: Reminder re Nillumbik Senior’s Festival events including music at Mud Brick cottage

4. Paul Kelly requested volunteers for Festival as number of RC members will be away this year

5. Michael Maloney on behalf of Ken Paynter asked that all members manage to sign up at least one sponsor for the Festival – goal is to have 100x sponsors at $110 each

6. Frank Lynch reported that last week’s BBQ took $1208. The upgraded trailer worked perfectly and the new supplier for sausages ($4 kilo) from Tip Top Butcher in Bolton Street was a success

7. Sally Squires informed us of the Rotary Club of Greensborough / Diamond Valley Rotaract Club movie night on Wed 7th October to see ‘The Intern’ as well as the Eltham Rural Group charity golf day on 12 Oct at Rosanna Golf Club.

8. Les Coath reminded us that today is World Polio Day and of need to support ‘Every Rotarian Every Year’  through Foundation. Polio is now very close to eradication

9. Margaret Lane reported that so far there are 4 x potential female members for new members night on 15 October

Shourouk is kindly providing me with Internet access at meetings so that members can have one on one assistance prior to the meeting.

This week we welcome Mark Baigent, CEO, Kalparrin Early Childhood Intervention Service.  Mark is a bit of a star, his talk should be top notch. He has worked for more than 20 years in Sports Administration & the Disability Service Sector. His distinguished appointments include:

(1) Sports Education Research Consultant to the Queensland Deputy Premier,
 
(2) Strategic  Planning Consultant to the Australian Sports Commission,
 
(3) Founding Member of the Paralympics in Australia,
 
(4)Executive Director of Gymnastics Queensland, in mid 90's was named Queensland Sports Administrator of the Year,
 
(5)Regional Manager of Brisbane's largest support organisation for Children concerned with multiple & complex disabilities & life limiting illnesses.
 
Mark also engaged in business Consulting & Hospitality in Tasmania before commencing his current position at Kalparrin in 2014.
His Presentation will focus on the Services offered to children with disabilities and the extra needs and the impact for Kalparrin of the NDIS.
 
Mark knows Rotary well, he is RYLA Graduate & Member of RC Greensborough Central.
 
A couple of RC Eltham members will be interested to learn Mark is a Classic car enthusiast.
 
Past President Ken The Hawk will be in charge, and attempt to concentrate on Rotary affairs for a couple of hours ahead of Saturday!!.
 
Irene Cant will be in chair whilst Paul Kelly  will boost funds for the Local Community.

Eltham Mens Shed

On Monday 28 September 2015, PP’s Ken Paynter (the ever humble but somewhat hoarse Hawk supporter) and Mike Englefield (the ever hopeful,optimistic Bulldog supporter) attended the Eltham Mens Shed (EMS) AGM at the Cottage , St Vincents Care Services Eltham ( formerly, Eltham Retirement Centre, Judge Book Village).
 
 
In acknowledging the various sources of assistance provided to the Shed, the EMS President, Jim Gundrum, expressed gratitude for our initiative and made special mention of the financial assistance and ongoing mentoring support provided by our Club.
 
In recognition of the establishment of the EMS by our Club, PP Ken made a presentation of a commemorative plaque to the Shed. Ken also formally handed over a cheque for $1500 which our Club obtained as a District 9790 Foundation Grant to assist the Shed with it formative expenditure.
 
 
In his presentation speech, PP Ken outlined the origins and reasons why our Club instigated the establishment of a Mens Shed, the community work done since by the EMS and assured the Shed members of our Clubs’ intention to continue to support the them in their endeavours to establish a permanent facility within the Eltham community.
 
 
The AGM and presentation were followed by a relaxing lunch consisting of antipasta, a delicious pasta main all washed down with EMS home brew ale and, of course, the obligatory glass of red….then it was off home for a snoooooooze !
