A very eye-opening and impressive presentation by Miles George last week, particularly the aspects of leading edge technology and electricity pricing structures. I’ll have to make a few bargaining phone calls with Origin and others this week to recover some of my “loyalty surcharge” costs.
We have a strong service and fellowship focus in our club, but it was also great to have a presentation with a vocational and general knowledge focus for our personal development. Thanks Howard and Mike for securing Miles as guest speaker. He’s a Kangaroo Ground resident, so can we interest him in membership?
A ‘speaker-free’ meeting next week provides the opportunity for plenty of fellowship and some committee meetings. A smaller group going to District conference this year, but I’m sure we will return with some new ideas from other clubs.
In the “House of Friendship” Dale and team will be promoting Aquabox sponsorship and Marion and I will be promoting the club’s Muskaan school project and the upcoming Bollywood Bedazzled Ball and supporting raffle. Book your tickets now before the big charge begins!
Renovations start at the Common on Friday this week and we are assured that it will be ‘habitable’ for us by next Thursday (23rd March). We will meet at the Heidelberg Golf Club on 30th March as the Common will be open to the public on the evening of the night markets. Watch this space!

Footy Tipping Competition with proceeds to Rotary Foundation is fast approaching

This week's meeting is the Pre District Conference meeting. As there will be some members attending Conference, there will be no speaker.
Normal meeting formalities will take place - brief Directors reports and Fine session to be followed by committee meetings if Directors are in attendance.

Ian Toohill: Please support to ‘Shave for a Cure’ 16 to 19 March to support research into blood cancers. Great event at Montmorency S.C. - 7 students, including 3 girls, participated in having hair shaved. Target of $3,000 already surpassed - $4,000 and rising.
Trevor Smith: Thanks to all at RC Eltham for generous support of Australian Rotary Health. 6 day ride to Conference commences Saturday 11 March.

Speaker: Miles George was our presenter on the issue of ‘Our Energy Future’ - what's in store for the transition of Australia's energy system over the next decades? Miles jointly led the team which established the renewable energy business now known as Infigen Energy initially as a private equity investment vehicle over the period from 2000-2003. He subsequently jointly led the Initial Public Offer and listing of the business on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2005, and was appointed as Chief Executive in 2007 and Managing Director in 2009. Miles enlightened us on many of the issues surrounding the problematic topic of energy and attracted a record number of questions following his presentation.
