Thank you to Irene Cant for organizing a very enjoyable social evening at Stix and Stones last Thursday. It was a pleasant change to have a social get-together and it was a great way to start the long weekend. Many thanks to both Rotarians and partners who came along.
Commiserations to the PIES and STORM supporters, it just wasn’t to be a Melbourne based victors’ celebration this year. Thankyou to Graham Miles for organizing our Footy Tipping Comp. and congratulations to the prize winners, Chris Brown (1st), Paul Kelly (2nd) and Joe Marchese (3rd). And thanks to our footy tippers, $400 was raised for Foundation. A great effort! For now though, we soak up the season that was, and be mighty thankful for a reprieve, at least for the next few months before the season starts all over again.
Last week members received an email inviting input into the nomination of RCE Board members for PE John Skinner’s year in 2019/20 and a President Elect for the 2020/21 Rotary year. Please give this your considered thought and if you wish to put forward any nominations, then please do so by Saturday October 6th. Using the nomination forms enclosed with the email, you can either email your completed forms to PE John or put them in a sealed envelope and give them to me this week. We look forward to member input into the important task of building the club’s leadership team for the next Rotary year along with the selection of a President for the following year. How quickly the years go!!!
Looking forward to this week’s meeting in which PP Rob Kilcullen will lead a discussion about the proposed Nepal project and Irene Cant will wow us with her Rotarian Behind the Badge presentation. Hope to see you there!

District 9790, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program that brings together youth and young adults, ages 18-30, to further develop character and leadership skills and learn about Rotary. RYLA is an intensive experience-based conference 7 days and 6 nights. The RYLA Conference is organised by previous RYLArians and Rotarians from across the District.Participants are nominated by local Rotary clubs or self nominated after hearing about the conference through friends. The conference offers the opportunity to build self-confidence, gain exposure to a variety of issues and people, meet active community leaders, and learn valuable information and career skills.RYLA gives young leaders the opportunity to serving their own communities and beyond. In turn, RYLA can bring new energy to a Rotary district, inspire ideas for service, increase support of community service projects, and develop future Rotarians. Each RYLA shares the following program objectives to:
demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth
encourage and assist young people in responsible and effective voluntary youth leadership by providing them with a valuable training experience
foster continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth
publicly recognize the many young people who are rendering service to their communities as youth leaders
Contact Nick at nick@coachnick.com.au or M: 0419 342 766 if you are aware of any aspiring young leaders who may be interested.
The community has rallied together with Council to rebuild the playground after it was burnt last December. And once again your input is needed. The push is to make the iconic playground as inclusive and accessible as possible so that it can be enjoyed by all of our residents. Now we are looking for community members to join a Community Interest Group as part of a ‘think tank’ looking at community projects to make this a reality for the Eltham North Adventure Playground precinct. The Community Interest Group will be made up of seven to nine diverse representatives of the community, and we are encouraging people with a lived experience of disability to apply. Expression of Interest applications are open and close 12pm, Friday 5 October. Applicants will be notified within a fortnight of applications closing.
