5 April 2018
I hope everyone has had a happy and relaxing Easter break.
Mine has been full of family and drama with one grandchild ending up at the Royal Children’s Hospital on Saturday having stitches in her chin after falling off her scooter and the other spending the evening on Sunday at the Austin with a severe attack of croup! Thank goodness we have first class facilities and professionals readily accessible to deal with such emergencies.
Last Thursday, Eltham locals Sue and Len Horwood painted a very different picture of life in the township areas of Hout Bay South Africa. The largely refugee population endures incredibly basic living conditions, endemic poverty and hunger, and little access to education. In collaboration with the Rotary Club of Hout Bay, the Horwoods have funded and supported the education of 12 township children and provided food for pre-school children and are inspiring role models on how we can help break the cycle of poverty. As you know, following the Horwood’s example, our Club has now partnered with the Rotary Club of Hout Bay to supplement the feeding program for an additional 100 pre-school children. The project demonstrates the power of Rotary to make a difference.
It was wonderful last Thursday to be able to induct our new member Dennis Booth and welcome him and wife Irene to the Rotary Club of Eltham. Dennis and Irene have lots to offer the Club and will make a wonderful contribution. In return we pledge them lots of opportunities for fellowship, commitment and making a difference both locally and internationally. Congratulations Dennis and Irene.
This Thursday is Club Assembly - held twice a year to allow Club members to ask questions and have a say in the running of your Club. So its an important meeting and I urge you to attend if possible.
Cheers, President Judy
