SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER

The Eltham Art Show 2023 once again put on a spectacular display of collectable art produced by Melbourne’s Nillumbik associated elite and accomplished artists.

We are proud of our participating Artists, we thank you enormously and will continue to provide a space for you to exhibit and sell your works, to the best of our ability.

With the assistance of over 50 volunteers from both Rotary and non-Rotarians the show proceeded from bump in on Sunday 27th August to the Gala opening on Wednesday 30th August, closing on Sunday 3rd September. Judge Paul McDonald Smith endured a very difficult decision with the 6 categories eventually settling on the Best in Show – Ocean Might, Venus Bay by Greg Allen.  The piece also took out the Hangers prize so you definitely got it right, Paul!

ELTHAM ART SHOW WINNERS

Saturday the 19th August provided a fabulous enPlein Air Painting Challenge.  From over 50 registrations, 47 hardy well prepared Artists took to 8 nominated historical locations and painted their scenes in less than 4 hours. The event was facilitated by Victorian Artists Society who selected the top 20 with the winner, Nina Volk, presented with a NGV voucher at the Gala Night. Nina had tough competition with Ray Wilson, Terry Jarvis, Ev Hales plus a wonderful contingent from VAS, U3A and Diamond Valley Arts. A must for the 2024 calendar and beyond.

Montsalvat came into the picture this year exhibiting the 3D proportion of the show.  For their very first year we welcome their presentation, enthusiasm and look forward to developing this relationship in the years to come.

Presenting the Heritage of the Nillumbik has brought out the best efforts from some very special people. The Selectors, Margo Tasca, Louise Foletta, and Gaynor Cuthbert called on all their knowledge and expertise to choose the paintings which made the cut for exhibition. Brenda Innes and Lyn Bertalli for their tiresome efforts in superbly curating the show in between those keen “hanging” Rotarians, our U3A tour guides who seamlessly weaved their way through the exhibition with the demure elderly retirees and their walking frames, our catering crew, the ECRC staff, promotions, secretarial & our dedicated and hardworking volunteer committee who took almost 6 months out of their lives to put this together. We applaud you.

We thoroughly appreciate and thank our sponsors, Victorian State Govt, Nillumbik Shire Council, Morrison Kleeman, Eltham Home Hardware, Eltham Framing & Gallery, Le Pine, RD Developments, Community Bank Eltham, Masterful Brands, Victorian Artists Supplies, and many other local supporters.

To avoid conflict with other major events we have chosen our dates for 2024.

Artists can prepare for the dates of 11th to 19th August 2024. Exhibition days and further details will be uploaded to the Website as they come to hand.
