OUR SUPPORT FOR THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
Our focus this year is to raise funds in support of Foundation and also to understand and access the available grants from Foundation to provide leverage to our eligible club projects.
The Foundation of Rotary International is our worldwide charity which enables:
- Rotary International to run massive worldwide programs such as “Polio Plus” on a scale not possible with the resources of individual clubs, districts or countries acting in isolation;
- Foundation grants to leverage club funds and enable clubs and districts to undertake larger projects and achieve greater outcomes than otherwise possible;
- Rotarians and all donors to have confidence in the probity and efficiency of management of all monies received, the effective investment of Foundation funds, and stringent targeting of grants in accordance with Rotary International objectives.
Club Fundraising
So far this year, we have raised funds through our annual Footy Night and last month’s fantastic Summer Luncheon on the Deck at Rye. Generously hosted by Graeme and Lyn Hardiman, the luncheon raised in excess of $3,000 for Foundation. Special thanks also to Mike and Lorraine Englefield for the donation of a week at their Barwon Heads holiday home for the silent auction. Such fundraising initiatives make a great contribution.
Personal Donations
All Rotarians are encouraged to support The Rotary Foundation as their ‘charity of choice’. The “Every Rotarian Every Year” (EREY) initiative encourages all Rotarians to make a donation to Foundation each year, regardless of size. Consider if 1.2million Rotarians donate an average of $10 each, the arithmetic is simple! All personal and corporate donations are fully tax deductible and bequests to Foundation provide a lasting legacy.
Foundation Grants to Eltham
Following the success of the 2016/17 District Foundation Grant of $1,500 for the CAVE scholarships program, the club has achieved a further grant of $2,000 this year for supply of Chrome computers for students at Diamond Valley Learning Centre. Both of these grants doubled the effectiveness of club funds allocated to these projects.
Board members are now reviewing candidate projects for 2018/19, including considering how some projects might be structured to achieve Foundation grants and further leverage our club funds.
District Conference
If you are attending District Conference make sure you hear the presentation on Friday afternoon by Dr Bruce Allen, a Trustee of the Rotary Foundation and Manager of the Rotary Foundation South Pacific & Philippines Office, Sydney.
