The mini trivia night last Thursday provided a more relaxed atmosphere for our regular Thursday meeting and provoked lots of fun, laughter and friendly rivalry. We all learnt how much trivia we couldn’t immediately call to mind! Thanks to Alison for organising the evening and to our efficient and entertaining MC Gary Williams who kept proceedings lively.
The long awaited shade sail at Eltham Lower Park is finally being installed this week. You might recall that we received funding under the Stronger Communities program of the Federal Government which was matched by Nillumbik Council for the sail to provide shade over the playground area at the park. A' small offical ‘launch’ of the sail is being arranged.
The Board is meeting on Wednesday this week and amongst other things will discuss spending proposals from Directors for the remainder of this year. As outlined by Lou at Club Assembly, we have been very busy this year and have raised more money than originally budgeted. The Board will assess proposals in the context of our 3 year Strategic Plan, the goals we established at the beginning of this year, and the sustainability of proposals into future years.
I enjoyed the company of Ian Thomas, Howard Turner, and Ann Lynch at the weekly BBQ this week. It was blustery and occasionally wet so numbers of patrons in the park were low but we soldiered on and enjoyed the camaraderie. The BBQ is so efficiently organised these days that it is a pleasure to be a member of the team and I thank every member of the BBQ committee, especially Alan, Lyn and Paul Kelly for their work in making the weekly BBQ such an effective fundraiser. And all members who take their turns on the roster.See you on Thursday at the Montmorency Eltham RSL.
Cheers, President Judy

The Charter for the Rotary Club of Eltham was granted on 19 April 1973 and was presented at a meeting held at Glenn College, La Trobe University on Friday 1st June 1973 by District Governor Alex Rigg. The Club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Greensborough and the Governor’s Special Representative was PP Ron Myerscough.Present at the charter dinner was the President of the Rotary Club of Altona Pi Beecham and his wife Majorie. (Pi joined Eltham in 1980).
At the time of the presentation there were 27 members and the Charter President was Geoff Dreverman. The other charter officers were Vice President Neville Emerson, Secretary Norm Tilling, Treasurer John Smibert and Directors Barry Gaudion, Bry Ham, Bruce Holland, Stan Jessop, Bob McLellan and Norm Williams. Sergeant –at –Arms was Keith Kelley (Keith was the only former Rotarian in the club). The members were determined that the club should have a character of its own and adopted a ’play it by ear’ attitude.

When Shayla, now 24, was little, mum Cheryl Meredith promised her she would not miss out on the fun things her younger, athletic brother did. Now keeping this promise will be easier when a shed to store cumbersome, heavy adaptive bikes is built near the Diamond Creek Trail. The shed is a combined project by Nillumbik Shire Council, the Brotherhood of St Laurence and the Australian Government.
Council would love to hear from anyone who has, or knows someone with an adaptive bike, or who would use one now that a shed is being built to store them in Diamond Creek. To discuss specific needs or get involved in planning the shed, please contact Council’s Community Inclusion Coordinator Angela Lampard on 9433 3355 or email inclusion@nillumbik.vic.gov.au by 27 April.
Round 3 saw Judy Sharp as our top tipster missing out by 1 for the perfect nine. Osteosarcoma (Alan McCleary) still heads the pack with 18 pts, closing fast is Kiwi Annie and DABlues. Good Luck in Round 4
