With the end of financial year rapidly approaching, many individuals and companies are now reviewing their annual accounts and recognise that the Australian Tax Office can help them “make a difference” in the world through tax-deductible philanthropic donations. No doubt you are already being approached by mail, emails, and phone calls from worthy organisations seeking your donation ….. but how do you choose?
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is our ‘own’ charity enabling 35,000 Rotary clubs to implement projects in support of disadvantaged individuals and communities locally and across the globe. In the 100 years since its inception in 1917 the Rotary Foundation has contributed over $3 billion dollars to life-changing sustainable projects.
Foundation projects are directed to 6 causes: fighting disease, growing local economies, supporting education, saving mothers & children, providing clean water, and promoting peace. The Foundation’s Polio Plus initiative has been significant in wiping out 99.9 percent of all polio cases worldwide. Donations to Polio Plus are also matched by a 2:1 donation from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Foundation has been internationally recognised with the 2017 Award for Outstanding Foundation from the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The award honours organisations that show philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation, encouragement of others, and involvement in public affairs. The Rotary Foundation also has been given an exceptional 4 star rating by the Charity Navigator website. The rating system shows donors how efficiently a charity will use their support, how well it has sustained its programs and services over time, and its level of commitment to accountability and transparency. In the words of Ian Riseley, President of Rotary International “To put it simply, a dollar given to The Rotary Foundation has a great deal more muscle than a dollar given to most charities” (Rotary Down Under, Nov.2017)
Now is a great time for you, your family, your friends, your business to consider “Making a Difference” in the world with a donation to our charity, The Rotary Foundation (with a little help from Mr Hockey and Bill & Melinda Gates!).
Payments made directly to The Rotary Foundation in the USA will not be issued with a tax deductible receipt. For Australian donations, cheques need to be made payable to "The Australian Rotary Foundation Trust" to be tax deductible.
